About Us

The Herb Garden was established by Sharon and Gerry Channer about 18 years ago. They, along with their son Michael, dug the beds of the display gardens, renovated to two smaller barns, and had the greenhouses and shade house erected. They sold potted herbs, held herbal workshops and hosted the first Herbfest in 1993.

After about ten years, they decided to sell the business in order to travel. We purchased the garden in 2003. At the time, neither of us had any more herb gardening experience than those we grew in our backyard. We had moved to Ottawa from Toronto and enjoyed life in Sandy Hill. An outing to “the Herb Garden” in September 2003 resulted in our purchase, along with a lifestyle change and a large learning curve. During that first year, the Channers were extremely helpful, sending us answers to our many questions from internet cafes as they traveled to the southernmost tip of South America.

During the past eight seasons, we have expanded our interests to include buffet lunches and dinners, business and club meetings, outdoor weddings and more, for the Ottawa area residents. Determined to provide Ottawa with a charming local getaway, lots of hard work was put into the Herb Garden to make it the wonderful, serene, Ottawa destination that it is today. We had composting toilets built, a patio installed behind the Bergamot Barn, and dug a labyrinth.

We invite everyone to come for a visit. Stroll through our display gardens, meditate in our labyrinth, walk the wild trail, shop, picnic, ENJOY.
